Impact of Black Carbon in South East Asia
Responsible : Xavier Mari - M.I.O
Participant : BUI Van Vuong (PhD ARTS-IRD). Historical deposition flux of Black Carbon and co-pollutants in Halong Bay, Vietnam
Partner institutions : IRD, USTH, IMER
Objectives
- to determine the impact of Black Carbon on the biological carbon pump and its feedback on atmospheric CO2 concentration,
- to determine the impact of Black Carbon on the transfer of contaminants to the marine food web,
- to improve Black Carbon emissions inventories in South East Asia and determine ocean input, by establishing a regional monitoring network for measuring concentrations and characteristics of Black Carbon in the atmospheric, riverine and marine compartments,
- to develop an atmosphere / ocean modeling framework describing the climate, biogeochemical and health impacts of Black carbon.
