Call for applications for the City of Marseille's thesis prize

13 July 2021

Mrs Aurélie Biancarelli-Lopes, Deputy Mayor of Marseille, in charge of Research, Student Life and Higher Education, proposes that the following be awarded in 2021
of the City of Marseille's Thesis Prize for AMU doctoral graduates who have defended their thesis in 2020.

This proposal was adopted by the elected representatives of the City of Marseille at the April 2021 meeting of the City Council.

For this year, it is proposed to distinguish the best theses defended in 2020 in the following 4 themes:

Social and democracy,
Ecology and sustainable development,
The Mediterranean,
Life and health sciences.

Three thesis prizes will be awarded per theme, i.e. 12 prizes in total, according to the following distribution
1 500 € for the 1st prize, 1 000 € for the 2nd prize and 500 € for the 3rd prize.

The thesis prizes will be awarded to the winners by Mrs Aurélie Biancarelli-Lopes at a ceremony organised in autumn 2021
at the Marseille City Hall, in the presence of the President of AMU. The date of this ceremony has not yet been set.

After discussion with Philippe Delaporte, we propose that each ED concerned by one or more of the 4 themes chosen this year, pre-select and rank 3 of the best theses defended in 2020 by theme on the basis of the same criteria as the AMU Thesis Prize.
As a reminder, the criteria are: scientific quality, originality of the work carried out and the impact of the results obtained and their exploitation.
It is possible to submit the same file for the AMU thesis prize and the City of Marseille thesis prize.

As for the AMU Thesis Prize, each application file must include the summary of the thesis, the pre-tenure reports
and the defence report, publications relating to the thesis, the CV of the young doctor, the duly completed application form and any additional document you consider useful.
I would be grateful if you could also fill in the following information

Please also fill in the information requested in the attached excel spreadsheet which has a tab for each theme.

A "Prix de thèse Ville de Marseille" directory will be created on AMUBox with a sub-directory for each ED and will be shared so that you can deposit
the candidates' files, the filled-in excel table and a letter with arguments accompanying the proposed files.

The calendar of this call for applications is as follows:

- Submission of applications on AMUBox, together with the letter explaining the selection of applications, by Tuesday 13 July 2021 at the latest.
